This week Spatial Awareness is excited to bring Patagial Veil to the tripped out wallpaper room for a 3 hour expansion of the mind demonstrated by one of the Philly undergrounds most active participants. Patagial Veil (Nestor) is a non-binary DJ, producer, and classical composer. They spin a variety of genres ranging from techno, electro, house, club, and bass. They often change their style based on the aesthetic of an event while maintaining their musical sensibility. They blur the lines between these genres, circling a common nucleus while focusing on percussive, bouncy, and bass-oriented rhythms. In Philadelphia, they co-organize a nomadic event series called All Mutable, which brings together musical, visual, and performance artists for immersive nightlife gatherings. They spent years active in Philadelphia's experimental and dance music scenes, organizing concerts and performing improvised electronics before moving to Boston to study classical composition at New England Conservatory. Nestor's live sets combine acoustic instruments and objects, processed and activated through electronics. Recently, while traveling, they have been performing entirely digitally while still incorporating recorded sounds from nature, objects, and instruments. Nestor draws on their compositional experience to organize textural and gestural material into waves of intensity and tranquility. They mangle sound snippets and transmute them through granular synthesis and rhythmic sequencing, creating intricate soundscapes that pulse and wander. This month you can catch All Mutable doing two events in Philly as part of the Collective Futures series: A panel on October 24th with all Black Trans DIY organizers talking about their experiences in the underground music scene as well as a performance on November 8th at ice box. Spatial Awareness is 9 pm-12 am. Patagial Veil is the DJ. Our door is donation-based with a suggested sliding scale of $5-$20 - no one will be turned away.
