Late Breakfast is proud to present an evening of immersion, patience, and mysticism, welcoming experimental harpist Lara Somogyi as well as New York’s Herb Lore to the stage at 2220 Arts. Ian MacPhee opens the evening. ~ A harpist and contemporary classical performer-composer, Lara Somogyi is known for her work in forging a new artistic identity for the harp. Born and raised in Hawaii and New York, Lara is a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music in London, and was awarded as an honorary Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM) for her contributions to her field. With an unwavering dedication to sculpting a world of sonic exploration, Lara has seamlessly integrated electronics and pedal effects with her deeply classical roots, redefining the artistic possibilities of the harp. ~ Herb Lore (ambient, psych-folk, New Age) is an attempt at restraining & divesting oneself in order to achieve a oneness with the Natural World (& explore Spaces Unseen). Self-gathered field recording, meditative repetition, and restrained improvisation, evoke the Spirit of these natural places while Annie Dillard, The Transcendental Painting Group, & Gene Wolfe serve as Beacons to the project, illuminating what's unseen. Are we forgoing Potential Realities if we're tethered to this one? ~ Ian MacPhee merges ambient drone with organic field recordings. Using experimental digital processing, he crafts atmospheric compositions that feel fluid and introspective. His soundscapes evolve gradually, offering a deeply immersive journey through texture and tone. To aid in the immersion, Ian uses photography & videography that he captures and edits himself.
