SPECIAL GUEST: DJ SHANI Born on Chicago’s South Side, DJ Shani has spent almost three decades cultivating soulful musical experiences rooted in House, Soul, Funk, Jazz, Blues, Reggae, and Afro-diasporic sounds. While attending Loyola University Chicago, she created The Groove Temple, a groundbreaking Deep House radio show that premiered on WLUW 88.7 FM in 1998, helping fill the void left by the legendary WBMX. Over its 17-year run, the show reached listeners around the world and featured interviews and guest mixes from influential artists including Derrick Carter, Ron Trent, Osunlade, Black Coffee, Lady D, DJ Heather, Phil Asher, and many others. Beyond radio, Shani has worked as a music journalist for 5 Magazine and L’Afrique, produced 15 House Music focused events in Austin, studied at La Sorbonne in Paris, worked at Chicago’s iconic Gramaphone Records, and collaborated with Glenn Underground and Jay-Cee on the recording “Mon Ami, Mon Amour.” Now based in Austin, Texas, DJ Shani continues to build community through music as a DJ, producer, and cultural curator. She has performed at the Moody Center (opening for Duran Duran’s Future Past Tour), The Long Center, 3TEN ACL Live, Antone’s Nightclub, The LINE Hotel, SoHo House, Empire Control Room, and numerous festivals and venues throughout Texas and Chicago. An official SXSW Artist from 2020-2023, she also served on the SXSW Accessibility Crew in 2026 and opened the Juneteenth celebration at the John Lewis Plaza for the Barack Obama Presidential Center. In 2022, she joined the KUTX familiy relaunching The Groove Temple Friday nights at 11PM. Whether behind the decks or behind the microphone, DJ Shani remains dedicated to preserving the soulful roots of House music while creating inclusive, unforgettable experiences that connect people across generations. _______________________________________________________ Paradiso means heavenly garden or beach paradise, but many give it another meaning.
